The most powerful Sayona Subwoofers in 2019

A few years back, Sayona Subwoofers were introduced into the Kenyan market.

These Sayona woofers have lived up to their billing and taken the number one spot as the best subwoofers in Kenya.

Sayona Subwoofers as compared to other subwoofers

Before Sayona, there were other magnificent subwoofer brands namely Ampex and Golden Tech.

What is a subwoofer? A subwoofer is a loudspeaker that is manufactured and designed for the sole purpose of reproducing very low bass frequencies.

Thankfully, I have had the pleasure of owning all these three great subwoofers and in this review; I will share insights and great tips.

Ampex subwoofers

Well, it started off with Ampex subwoofers almost 20 years ago. The first ones had the amplifier compartment only.

They were analog and had no digital displays unlike the Sayona subwoofers of today.

The volume controls were analog too and the only input was the normal RCA cables.

These Ampex subwoofers were 2.1 channels. However, the sound output was out of this world.

Later in the years, the manufactures went a notch higher and added a digital FM tuner.

Other notable features included a USB and SD card input. They also featured a digital volume and remote control.

They mainly played the MP3 and WAV codec’s.

I also remember at one time they had preset volumes and also an RCA to Stereo cable that connected a phone to the main unit.

The amplifier featured 3 TDA 2030 IC’s. One IC each was feeding the two external speakers and the other IC feeding the main {internal} speaker.

The main speaker {woofer} was a 4inch- 4ohm dual coil one. This made the low sound (bass) output quite heavy.

The two external speakers were 2inch – 8ohm single coils and produced balanced mid and high sounds (tweeter)

Other important features

Furthermore, some of the Ampex Subwoofers came in the more powerful TDA 2050 IC’s.

The subwoofer enclosure was made of tightly fitted MDF boards with a single breather vent for enhanced bass.

Moreover, they had a 12 volts-0-12 volts transformer for maximum current and employed 4 rectifier capacitors for voltage boost and stabilization.

Though a bit exaggerated, the peak music power output (PMPO) was quite good and one enjoyed the music.

At the moment, getting an original Ampex Subwoofer is almost impossible.

They are now extinct. The available ones are not genuine and I would advise you to keep off them.

Golden Tech Subwoofers

Golden Tech subwoofers were the main competitors to the Ampex brand.

In my own opinion, they were more powerful than the Ampex subwoofers.

I owned a movie shop and had a 2.1 channel golden tech subwoofer that was amazing.

Like the Sayona subwoofers, this brand was more advanced and in later years fully digital.

One distinct feature was a 6inch-4ohms dual coil main speaker and a bigger enclosure.

This feature brought about very nice bass output. Moreover, many of them had the more powerful TDA 2050 IC’s.

With the TDA 2050 IC’s, came a more powerful transformer to handle the load. Precisely a 2 amps 12 volts-0-12 volts or 1.5 amps 15 volts-0-15 volts.

Furthermore, the enclosure was also made of tight fitted MDF boards with a single breather vent for maximum bass.

They were 2.1 channel formation woofers. {2 external speakers and one main/woofer speaker.

Other notable features included;

  1. FM receiver
  2. Remote control
  3. Digital volume control
  4. USB, RCA, SD slots
  5. Blue tooth capability
  6. Aux, FM, USB, and SD source inputs

Honestly speaking, I am not sure if the Golden Tech Subwoofers still exist.

If you come across one and listen to the sound and get convinced it is an original, I would advise you to get it.

Sayona Subwoofers

Sayona Subwoofers are the epitome of sound success. They are appliances truly worth owning.

Sayona Woofers have made many homeowners have some nice, quality, and decent sound output without spending much.

They come in various sizes and output channels formations. By these I mean 2.1, 3.1, 4.1, and, 5.1, channel combinations.

Just to explain these output channel formations, this is a ratio of external speakers to internal speakers.

What are channels?

A 2.1 channel Sayona Subwoofer has 1 main (bass/woofer) loudspeaker and two external (mid/high-tweeter) speakers.

On the other hand, a 5.1 channel has 1 main speaker and 5 external speakers.

Just to let you know, a 5.1 channel is more advanced because it mostly features an inbuilt surround system for better and optimized sound output.

With this comes several additional features like a bigger enclosure, powerful transformer and of course a higher price.

If not fully prepared to get a home theatre system, a genuine Sayona subwoofer would be a good option.

As with many other subwoofers in Kenya, Sayona subwoofers feature the TDA 2030 IC’s.

However, if lucky enough one could come across the TDA 2050 IC’s made ones though, a rare thing.

Sayona Subwoofers have between 4 to 8 inch dual coil main woofers.

Furthermore, they have powerful 2 amps 12-0-12 or 2 amps 15-0-15 volts transformers.

Sayona woofers have a great 4 set power capacitors rectifier for maximum current transfer and voltage stabilization.

Other notable features of Sayona Subwoofers are;

  1. Preset equalizer
  2. Inbuilt surround system
  3. FM receiver {with scan and store memory}
  4. More Audio codec’s play capability
  5. USB, SD card slots
  6. RCA to stereo cable capability
  7. RCA cable capability
  8. Remote control
  9. Digital sound control
  10. Aux, FM, USB, and SD source inputs
  11. Bluetooth capability

Sayona subwoofers golden tips

Being a technician, it is always my obligation to guide you so that your appliance serves you well.

Kindly read and follow these tips.

  • Buy genuine and warranty ready products
  • Avoid prolonged maximum volume to protect the external speakers
  • If you note any form of abnormal sound or humming, kindly see a technician
  • Always switch off if not listening to avoid damage due to  power surges
  • Use the remote control if possible to give the microswitches longer life.
  • Have a technician check up your Sayona subwoofer once every year to diagnose and see if there is any issue that may be forestalled.

Sayona Subwoofers prices

Well, Sayona subwoofers prices are mainly determined by the channel configuration that you decide to purchase.

A 2.1 channels output is the cheapest while a 5.1 channels output is the most expensive.

Other factors include the model number and to some extent the material used for the enclosure.

I would advise you to go for an MDF enclosure one as opposed to the plastic enclosure one.

Sayona woofer prices vary at between 3000 Ksh to 20000 Ksh depending on the factors I have alluded to above.

Below I will do comprehensive and detailed reviews and also share the prices with you.
